Ecologically structured information: The power of pictures and other effective data presentations (2007)

Abstract

Comments on an article by Aron K. Barbey and Steven A. Sloman (see\nrecord 2007-18575-001). The general principle behind the effects\nof nested sets on the use of base rates, we believe, is that the\nmind is prepared to take in "ecologically structured information."\nWithout any need to assume two cognitive systems, this principle\nexplains how the proper use of base rates can be facilitated and\nalso accounts for occasions when base rates are overused.
